Since most New Year resolutions are usually behavioural actions – things we want to accomplish in 2014. This means that we focus on the ‘doing’ aspect of our goals and we forget the ‘being’ aspect. There is the tendency to overlook this question when setting New Year goals: who do I need to ‘become’ (inwardly) in order for me to accomplish my 2014 targets?

A lot of people will set 2014 New Year goals and many will fail to accomplish them. They will start the New Year with the best intentions and motivations yet they won’t hit their 2014 targets. The main reason why they will fail is because they lack the discipline to follow through on their New Year goals.

The purpose of New Year resolutions is to produce change. The main desire is to be better off in 2014 compared to 2013. Everyone intends to change but few are willing to pay the price to change. It is however much easier to continue doing what we have always done than it is to change. This is because we are habitual creatures. It requires discipline to break old habits for productive new ones.

Highly productive people are disciplined. This is what makes them so successful. They know what they want and are willing to pay the price and make the sacrifices to accomplish their goals. They also know that there is a difference between intention and action.

I presume that you know what you want to accomplish in 2014 but do you know who you need to ‘become’ (inwardly) in order to accomplish these goals? Also are you prepared to pay the price as well as make the necessary sacrifices to accomplish your 2014 goals?
